ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sole and heel assembly for footwear with variable arch comprises an indeformable fixed member constituting a sole and heel, a pivotable member which encompasses a rear part of the sole and the heel and which is hinged on the sole by means of a spindle in such a manner as to pivot between a lowered position and one or more high positions; locking means to lock the pivotable member in one of its positions and prestressed spring means disposed between a fixed member and the pivotable member for biassing the latter towards its high position; the assembly permits rapid alteration of the height of the heel of the footwear.
