ABSTRACT The subject invention deals with the construction of roofing systems over a roof deck and in particular a single ply membrane system which uses a batten fastening system in lieu of river rock ballast to hold the membrane to the roof deck. Such batten systems result in stress concentrations on the roof membrane and is a source of potential leakage because of the risk of cutting the membrane or flashing on sharp edges of the batten or the penetrating fasteners which attach the batten to the roof deck. Disclosed is an anchor bar which is formed of a sheet material and includes flanges running along each longitudinal edge thereof. The flange includes an upper rolled lip and a lower rolled lip which in combination with the upper surface of the central portion forms an elongated cavity sized to contain the head of the headed penetrating fastener used to fasten the anchor bar to the roof deck. Preferably, each upper rolled lip is formed to include an invagination into which the edge of the sheet metal forming the anchor bar is positioned.
