A telephone call answering system for use in a communication system such as a PABX, for receiving incoming calls carried by a plurality of trunk lines and routing the incoming calls to respective hunt groups within the communication system, each hunt group being comprised of a plurality of call answering stations. Predetermined priority levels are assigned to respective ones of the hunt groups within the communication system, and each of the answering stations is assigned to a predetermined one or more of the hunt groups for answering the calls routed thereto. Incoming calls are queued within the system for answering by the stations assigned to the hunt groups in accordance with the priority levels, and apparatus is provided for identifying at each of the call answering stations which one of the hunt groups is associated with each of the incoming calls answered by the stations, in order that an operator associated with each of the stations may answer the incoming calls with an appropriate greeting.
