ABSTRACT A highly accurate thermometry probe for use in hyperthermia treatment of cancer. The invention is comprised of a plurality of serially spaced thermocouples disposed within a heat conducting sheath, each thermocouple having leads separately extending from the sheath. The thermocouples within the sheath are immersed within a heat conducting material, the sheath and the heat conducting material having thermal conductivities which are low, and similar. Preferably the sheath is contained within a catheter, which can be inserted into the tumor, and carries the thermometry probe. Maximum lateral heat transfer to the thermocouples is achieved at the same time as minimum heat flow along the probe in the axial direction.
