ABSTRACT A database system comprises a network (6) and a number of data- producing and processing subsystems (2a-2n) connected to this network (6). A subsystem (2), of which several are included in the database system, is suitable for making requests to the network (6) for the supply of information of a particular type in case the subsystem (2) needs this information. A subsystem (2) is also suitable for presenting the network (6) with information produced by this subsystem including an indication of the type of this information. The network (6) is suitable for accepting information presented by the subsystem (2) including an indication of the type of this information. The network (6) is also suitable for supplying accepted information of a particular type to a subsystem which requested information of the said type.
