ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of treating trees comprises driving into a tree an open end of a capsule partially filled with a solid or n semi-solid soluble substance. The capsule is driven into the tree by an apparatus until the open end penetrates the conducting tissue of the tree and a plug of tree tissue is forced into the capsule mouth. The capsule is left in the tree until the substance is dissolved by natural fluids within the tree and diffused from the capsule case. The apparatus comprises a guide tube and a drive pin slidably received in the guide tube for driving capsules from one guide tube into the tree. A feed tube carries a plurality of axially aligned capsules. There is a mechanism for selectively feeding one capsule at a time from the feed tube into the guide tube.
