PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention a pour objet un perfectionnement à un procédé de valorisation de la coupe C4 en provenance d'une unité de craquage ou de craquage à la vapeur. Ce perfectionne- ment consiste à soumettre la coupe C4 oléfinique non pas à une simple réaction de polymérisation, mais à un couplage d'une réaction de polymérisation et d'une réaction d'isoméri- sation, couplage qui consiste non seulement à obtenir une transformation sélective de l'isobutène en dimères C8 et en trimères C12, mais également à provoquer le déplacement de la double liaison du butène-1 avec donc transformation de la majeure partie du butène-1 en butènes-2, pour atteindre, sous les conditions opératoires et avec les catalyseurs choisis, une composition assez proche de celle qui correspond à l'équi- libre thermodynamique. Les autres constituants de la charge ne sont sensiblement pas transformés au cours de la réaction d'isomérisation. Cette transformation du butène-1 en butènes-2 présente un intérêt primordial pour la réaction d'alkylation effectuée après le fractionnement de l'effluent d'isomérisation, car les produits obtenus par alkylation des butènes-2 possèdent un indice d'octane nettement supérieur à celui des alkylats issus du butène-1.
