ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE For the removal of hydrogen sulphide and iron sul- phide in aqueous systems water-soluble low molecular polycon- densation products are used. They are obtained by condensation of acrolein and formaldehyde in a molar ratio of between 1:1 and 1:10 in an aqueous or aqueous-organic medium in the presence of a basic catalyst. The condensation reaction can also be carried out in the additional presence of water-soluble monohy- dric or polyhydric alcohols and/or acid amides.
