Abstract Derivatives of D-glucose, D-galactose or D-mannose of the formula I (I) Image are immunostimulants and can be used e.g. as adjuvants or for the prophylaxis of infectious diseases. The characteristic feature is that at least one of the substituents R1, R2, R6, R12, R13 and, in certain cases R9 and R11, contains a phosphoryl substituent of formula Ib or Ic Image (Ib), Image (Ic) in which represents an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical having at least 7 carbon atoms, R16 represents hydrogen and R17 represents 2-hydroxyethyl or 1,2-dihydroxyethyl, wherein at least one hydroxy group is esterified or etherified by a radical having at least 7 carbon atoms, or wherein each of R16 and R17 independently of the other, represents esterified or etherified hydroxymethyl, the esterifying or etherifying radicals having at least 7 carbon atoms.
