ABSTRACT The para-isomer of a dialkyl-aromatic hydrocarbon is separated from a mixture with at least one other isomer of the hydrocarbon by contacting the mixture with a crystalline aluminosilicate adsorbent containing barium and potassium ions at exchangeable cation sites in a mole ratio corresponding to a BaO to K20 ratio of 0.6:1 to 1.2:1 at adsorption conditions selected to effect adsorption of said para-isomer and thereafter contacting the para-isomer containing adsorbent with a desorbent material selected from monofluroaromatics, difluoroaromatics or mixtures thereof at desorption conditions selected to effect recovery of said para-isomers.
