Disclosed is apparatus for carrying a propane tank and the carrier has a pivotal handle which pivots up over the top of the tank once the tank has been fitted into the apparatus. When the top pivotal handle of the apparatus is used, the handle will naturally come close against the user's side and the propane tank (and the base of the tank) will travel in a relatively vertical position due to gravity, thus leaving the user's arm in a more natural position and at the same time keeping the tank and carrier from rubbing against the user's leg with undue friction. The apparatus has two side mounted handles which permit the user to lift the tank (and carrier) more easily in and out of a vehicle or in and out from under the barbecue cart where tanks are normally positioned. The apparatus also has a base which is larger than the largest diameter of the propane tank and accordingly the tank becomes more stable when positioned in the apparatus.
