CATHETER WITH VALVE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A catheter comprising, an elongated shaft having a main lumen extending through the shaft, and an inflation lumen extending along the shaft. The catheter has an inflatable bal- loon on a distal portion of the catheter and communicating with the inflation lumen. The catheter has a side arm of elastic material having a cavity with an annular seat at a proximal end of the cavity, and an annular shoulder at a distal end of the cavity defining an opening. The side arm has a port extending from the proximal end of the cavity to the outside of the side arm, with the inflation lumen communicating with the opening. The catheter has a rigid valve element having a body member received in the cavity. The body member has a base bearing against the shoulder, and an annular valve surface sealingly engaging against the seat. The body member has at least one groove adjacent a distal end thereof defining a portion of the body member being more narrow than the opening. The valve ele- ment has a stem extending from the body member into the port.
