ABSTRACT In a bow-facing oar, it is known to be in two parts, an inner component which is in the form of a two-pronged fork which allows for passage of the inner end of the outer component. The two components are hinged together in such a way that the load point of the inner component which acts as a second class lever coincides with the effort point of the outer component which acts as a third class lever. The invention includes a pivoting brace, one end of which forms a movable fulcrum for the outer component of the oar, allowing lateral motion only. The whole mechanism is housed in a frame which pivots to the side at the gunwale of the boat.
