61936-1713 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composition comprising a complex prepared by reacting a borated alkyl catechol the formula Image wherein R is alkyl containing 10 to 30 carbon atoms and an oil soluble alkyl or alkenyl succinimide of the formula Image I wherein R1 represents an alkenyl group, "alkylene" radical represents a substantially hydrocarbyl group containing up to 8 carbon atoms and A represents, for example, a hydrocarbyl group or hydrogen. Lubricating oils containing borated alkyl catechols-succinimide complex are effective in reducing fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine.
