ABSTRACT A radio paging receiver is described. Typically, such receivers generate an alert tone and store display information or a message when a selective calling signal is received. One problem with prior art devices is that when the alert tone is manually switched off by the user the message displayed is then also lost, either immediately or after a preset delay. The invention provides the improvement in that the manual alert tone reset switch can be depressed without erasing the message which is retained indef- initely while the switch is maintained depressed. Only on releasing the switch is the display reset either immediately or after a preset delay. This gives better control to the user and assists in preventing inadvertent loss of message.
