ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Water-soluble, pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions with effective adhesion, tack, and cohesive strength are provided. The composition comprises acrylate based polymer systems containing carboxylic functionality which are at least partially esterified with an ethoxylate of alkyl phenol or aliphatic alcohol and then at least partially neutralized with alkaline material. The compositions are admirably adapted as coatings for substrates to produce various tape products and for paper substrate. The paper tapes are especially useful for splicing tapes in paper board manufacture process and by virtue of the repulpability of the tape product recycling in such manufacturing process is facilitated.
