Abstract A measuring device detects a liquid component in refrigerant leaving the evaporator of a refrigerator or the like through the suction conduit (8). It is associated with a heating element (11), a tem- perature measuring sensor (13) and a reference value generator (14). The difference between the sensor signal and reference value are evaluated. The temperature measuring sensor (13) is in thermal contact with the tube (12) and is arranged at a spacing (a1) from the heating element (11) along the tube so that, in the presence of a liquid component in the refrigerant, the sensor signal is smaller than when the refrigerant is dry. In this way, the expansion valve can be controlled as a function of the moisture in the refri- gerant. Fig. 2
