Abstract Contact Tip For A Welding Head A contact tip for a welding head includes a body having a longitudinal passageway extending through the body, a wear-resistant member mounted in the body, and at least one transverse passageway in the body adjacent one end of the wear-resistant member. Wear-inducing deposits on the surface of consumable electrodes passing through the contact tip are removed by the wear-resistant member and directed radially outwardly to an external surface of the tip through the transverse passageways. The contact tip of the present invention is particularly useful in high duty-cycle automatic or robot-controlled welding operations.
