ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composition for cleaning the gums comprising silica, water and a detergent, said composition having a RDA of less than 20. A typical example of the composition is a gel comprising 45 to 55 parts of non-crystallizing sorbitol solution containing 60 to 70 wt. % of sorbitol; 10 to 20 parts of water; 12 to 16 parts of precipitated hydrated silica; 9 to 11 parts of glycerin; 2 to 4 parts of polyethylene glycol; 2 to 3 parts of detergent, such as sodium lauryl sulfate; 0.4 to 0.6 part of cellulose gum; and 0.2 to 0.3 part of sweetener. The composition is superior in appearance to similar compositions known in the art.
