ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A chair, particularly an office chair, comprises a vertically adjustable seat support with a backrest and tiltable seat pivotally mounted to the support via an inter- connecting linkage mechanism. The tilt of the backrest is changeable depending on the inclination of the seat. The linkage mechanism comprises scissors-shaped components mounted on the seat support, the components being pivotally secured to interconnected plates of the chair seat. This defines an imaginary, transversely extending unchangeable knee-turn axis disposed in front of the seat. The axis extends at the intersection of a horizontal plane defined by the seat in a normal position and an inclined plane (slant plane) of one linkage component in an inclined position. The invention improves the seating comfort since it eliminates any change of relevant support points of the seated person's body on the chair as well as the support points of the legs of the seated person on the floor adjacent the chair, when the chair is tilted.
