A b s t r a c t In a drum (10), which is rotatable about a horizontal axis of rotation (A), inlet and outlet pipes (36,38) for a gas for drying a material (44) contained in the drum (10) are connected to an immersion body (46). The immersion body (46) has inlet and outlet openings (70, 72) for the gas and within the drum (10) assumes a position in which it is immersed in the material (44). The immersion body (46) is a tunnel through which the material (44) can flow and has arranged in its interior at least part of the inlet and outlet openings (70, 72) for the gas.
