This invention relates to recombinant Factor VIII:c variants, methods to produce the variants and pharmaceutical compositions containing same. The variants of this invention are characterized by modification of one or more specific proteolytic cleavage sites encompassing the arginine residues at positions 220, 226, 250, 279, 282, 336, 359, 562, 740, 776, 1313, 1648, 1719 and 1721; and/or one or both of the lysine residues at positions 325 and 338 and/or serine-741. The variants possess similar or improved procoagulant activity and/or pharmacokinetic profiles compared to that of human Factor VIII:c.
