Process for the preparation of perylene Abstract A process for the preparation of perylene by heating perylene- carboxylic acids or the anhydrides or salts thereof, in the presence or absence of metal oxides, metal hydroxides or metal carbonates, to temperatures in the range from 380° to 550°C, which process is carried out under normal or slightly reduced pressure and the perylene so obtained is removed from the reaction vessel with a stream of inert gas. The perylene so obtained is of high purity.
