ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A support matrix for catalytically acting bonds, for example, for use in catalysts for the catalytic cracking of nitric oxides, is constructed from a metallic support, an inter- mediate layer of enamel adhesively applied to said support and a porous ceramic covering layer applied to the intermediate enamel layer. The support matrix is produced by immersing the metallic support in an enamel slip followed by burning at 800 to 900°C. The enameled metalic support is then immersed in a ceramic slip and said support is burned in a second burning step to the ceramic covering layer, which is the actual supporting layer for the catalytically active bonds.
