PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: Cette invention concerne un procédé de préparation industriel du trifluoroéthanol par hydrogénation de l'acide trifluoroacétique en présence d'un catalyseur à base de rhodium ou de ruthénium, lequel procédé s'effectue avantageusement en phase liquide, en continu, sur un catalyseur aisément disponible et avec d'exellents rendements. Selon ce procédé, on fait passer sur un lit fixe constitué du catalyseur à base de rhodium ou de ruthénium, un mélange réactionnel contenant de l'acide trifluoroacétique, de l'eau et du trifluoroéthanol, en présence d'hydrogène et à une température comprise entre 60 et 150°C sous une pression inférieure à 50 bars.
