The invention relates to a filter for separating solid particles from hot gaseous or liquid media which comprises a heat- resistant carrier material of relatively large pore widths and a similarly heat-resistant material of smaller pore widths as a coating of the carrier material. Whereas the carrier material may for example be composed of ceramics, the coating layer is formed by a multiplicity of particles of a material similar or related to the carrier material, and in a subsequent heating procedure a bonding can be brought about between the coating and the carrier material between equal or approximately equal materials or a eutecticum of miscible substances.
