ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A process for a simultaneous removal of polluants, particularly NOX and SO2, from flue gases by means of solids in a fluidized bed system comprising a fluidized bed reactor, separator and recycle line. In the process the flue gas is sued as a fluidizing gas and the fluidized bed consists of at least two different kinds of solids having particle sizes in at least two different ranges. The flud gases are treated at a temperature of 160 to 500°C. The coarser solids consist of materials for catalytically promoting the decom- position of NOX and have a particle size dp 50 from 50 to 1000 µm. The finer solids consist of sorbents for SOx and have a particle size dp 50 below 20 µm.
