ABSTRACT An angioscope centering catheter includes an angioscope mounted within an inner catheter for visualization of a vessel at the distal end of the catheter. The inner catheter is mounted within an outer heath for sliding longitudinal movement with respect to the outer sheath. The outer sheath includes a set of longitudinal slitted sections formed circumferentially near its distal end. The outer sheath and the inner catheter are connected at their distal ends such that when the catheter moves proximally with respect to the outer sheath, the slitted sections splay out from the axis of the catheter to center the viewing and of the angioscope. A deflector shield may he provided at the distal end of the catheter so that flush solution can be introduced with blood flow to provide a visualization field for the angioscope.
