- 1 - Abstract: A current-type inverter has a bridge circuit for converting d.c. power into a.c. power of a desired frequency. The d.c. power is supplied from a variable d.c. power source to a motor via a reactor that smooths the current. The bridge circuit comprises gate-turn off diodes that are rendered conductive or non-conductive responsive to signals supplied to control electrodes thereof. The d.c. terminals of the bridge circuit are connected to the variable d.c. power source and the reactor, and capacitors are connected across a.c. terminals of the bridge circuit. The inverter can be constructed in a reduced size and weight compared to prior inverters.
