Abstract: In a method of detecting microbial pathogens in a sample body fluid comprising obtaining said sample from a patient and thereafter at least a portion thereof containing microbial pathogens is distributed by dilution on a growth media capable of growing said microbial pathogens, the improvement comprising admixing the said sample with an antimicrobial factor deactivation system effective for deactivating antimicrobial factors present in said body fluid after said sample is taken from said patient and before it is distributed on said media.
