ABSTRACT The processes of the invention comprise depositing onto a foamable or non-foamable support, in a first selected area or zone, a coating or print containing at least one radiation initiator for polymerization and, in a second selected area or zone which can optionally partially encompass the first zone, a coating based on a cross-linkable monomer; providing a pre-gelling treatment and, at least locally, a mechanical graining treatment; providing also a polymerisation of the covering of the first zone by radiation initiation so as to fix its appearance and thereafter a gelling treatment which, by causing fluidisation of the second zone material, causes the disappearance of the grained appearance in the cross-linkable monomer and may also cause an expansion. The processes are particularly applicable to the production of wall coverings and floor coverings.
