ABSTRACT The invention relates to the combination of a percussion instrument such as a drum and a locking device for preventing unwanted rotation of the headed tension rods used to tension the skin of the drum. The device has a resilient portion to engage the rod head and an anti-rotation surface-engaging portion connected thereto. The resilient portion includes a recess, the walls of which extend at least partially through the interior of the device, of a size that the recess can receive the rod head when the resilient portion is press fit over the rod head. The surface-engaging portion has an edge for engaging a stationary surface of the drum rim, the edge being spaced from the axis of the recess by a distance about equal to the shortest distance from the stationary surface to the rotation axis of the rod. When the device is press mounted over the rod head and the surface-engaging edge is in contact with the stationary surface of the drum the rod cannot rotate on its own and the drum will remain in tune.
