ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fiber scope of the present invention is side-viewing type one fundamentally constructed from the combination of one image guide and two light guides disposed on both sides thereof in an objective part. This fiber scope is suitable for the observa- tion of the surface of long articles assembled with narrow gaps therebetween as in an assembly of nuclear fuel rods in a nuclear reactor and a wide field of view can be secured even if an object to be observed stands within point-blank of an objective part. Also the construction, by which a plurality of long articles can be simultaneously observed or also the observation of a state in the scanning direction can be carried out, is proposed. In the case where an object, which is under a radioactive environment, is observed, highly radiation resistant optical fibers are used. - 27 -
