MICROWAVE VARIABLE ATTENUATOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A microwave variable attenuator comprises a concuctive substrate. a microstrip line, and a movable attenuator sandwiched between the micro- strip line and the substrate. The attenuator is shaped so that the amount of its area between the microstrip line and the substrate can be changed by moving the attenuator. In a preferred embodiment, a segment of a disc embodies the attenuating material, and the disc is rotated to the desired orientation in an alumina guide. The attenuating material and the alumina guide have the same dielectric constant.
