ABSTRACT A mixing element (18) for the mixing of farinaceous material, is arranged to rotate at different speeds during the development of the material. The power developed by the motor is arranged to be constant throughout as the whole of mixing process and the speed of the rotating element is decreased as the resistance to its motion, provided by the developing farinaceous material, increases. This characteristic, which is required for minimum power wastage, may be effected by the sensing of the resistance provided by the developing material.
