ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization comprising a hydrocarbon-insoluble product (III) obtained by reacting (A) a silicon compound selected from the group consisting of (1) halogen-containing silicon compounds, (2) silicon compounds having a monomeric unit Image (wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different, R1 represents an alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, or aryloxy group, or a hydrogen atom, and R2 represents an alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl group or a hydrogen or halogen atom) and a polymerization degree of 2 to 10,000, (3) silanols of the general formula R3? Si(OH)4-? (wherein R3 represents an alkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl group or a hydrogen atom, and ? is 1, 2 or 3) or condensation products thereof, (4) silicon compounds represented by the general formula RmSi(OR5)4-m (wherein R4 represents an alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, or alkenyl group or a hydrogen atom, R5 represents an alkyl or aryl group or a fatty acid moiety, and m is 1, 2 or 3), and (5) silicon compounds or polymers thereof re- presented by the general formula [SiOa[OR6)b]n (wherein R6 represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl ABSTRACT: or aryl group or a fatty acid moiety, and a and b are each a number defined by the formula 0 ? a ? 1 or 2 ? b ? 4, and n is an integer of from 1 to 10,000), with (B) a compound of a transition metal of Groups IVa, Va and VIa of the periodic table to form a reaction mixture (I), further reacting the reaction mixture (I) with (C) an organomagnesium compound selected from organomagnesium compounds or hydrocarbon-soluble complexes thereof with an organometallic compound capable of solubilizing said organomagnesium compounds, to produce an intermediate product (II) and contacting the intermediate product (II) with (D) an organoaluminum halide represented by the general formula R?AlX3-c (wherein R7 represents an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, X represents a halogen, and c is a number defined by the formula 0< c < 3) to form the hydrocarbon-insoluble product (III).
