ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Cyclic carbonates are prepared by reacting a 1,3- diol or 1,2-diol with a dialkylcarbonate in the presence of a basic catalyst. They are obtained in higher yields with higher purity by subjecting the reaction mixture to heat aging under vacuum in the presence of the basic catalyst, and recovering the cyclic carbonate from the mixture.
