72222-123 PC7461/JMM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE N-substituted guanylthioureas of the formula Image (wherein R is C1-6 alkyl or benzyl) are produced by reacting S-alkyldithiobiuretium acetate of the formula: Image (wherein R1 is C1-3 alkyl) with an amine of the formula: R-NH2 in a reaction-inert solvent. The products are obtained in a high yield and are useful as intermediates for producing antiulcer agents 2-(1-alkyl-3-quanidino)-4-(2-alkyl-4-imidazolyl)thiazole of the formula Image (where R' is C1-5 alkyl).
