ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Access to a pipe section which is surrounded by a protective coating is achieved by enclosing the pipe section in a sleeve and then flowing a refrigerant fluid through the sleeve to render the protective coating brittle. The brittle coating can then be easily broken by means of an impacting hammer, or the like, to provide access to the pipe section.
