ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of joining submerged pipeline sections includes supporting first and second pipeline section ends on first and second supports in a body of water with the first pipeline section end received with a first chamber, and moving the second support to bring the ends together until the second pipeline section end is in the chamber. During such movement, the second end is guided by sliding contact between guides on the supports. Water is pumped from the chamber, which is then maintained at atmospheric pressure and a diving chamber is lowered to enable a welder to transfer into the first chamber to weld the ends together.
