ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A paging receiver with a display function allows a usual message to be displayed and a receiver control signal to be sent together in a single message format. A first and a second predetermined character are detected in a received message, and a message occurring between the first and second characters is extracted as a receiver control signal and not displayed on a display.
