A B S T R A C T Image Compounds having at least one group -N=C=O and/or Image wherein A represents a group OB or NR1R2 wherein B represents an alkyl or aryl group which may contain halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups and R1 and R2 which may be the same or different each represent H, or alkyl or aryl groups which may contain sub- stituents, can be prepared by oxidative conversion of compounds having at least one group Image , wherein X represents OY or N-Z wherein Y is H, a metal ion or a group NR3R4R5R6 wherein each of R3, R4, R5 and R6 which may be the same or different, is H, alkyl or (substituted) (alk)aryl and Z is a (substituted) alkyl or aryl group.
