ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The disclosure describes a compound having the formula: Image the hydrates, and the acid addition salts thereof. The disclosure also describes a process for producing these compounds by heating piperazine with an acid of the formula: Image in a non-reactive solvent such as, for example, water, alcohol, pyridine, picoline, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, hexamethylphosphoric triamide, or the like, or in the absence of a solvent, at a temperature between room temperature and about 200°C. These compounds are particularly useful because it possesses potent antibacterial activity against both gram- positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
