ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification discloses a firearm safety kit for disabling a firearm. The kit includes a frangible strap to be secured about the firearm to prevent a movable member, such as the hammer, from moving as required to fire the firearm. Application of predetermined pressure breaks the strap and enables the firearm to be fired. In another aspect for bolt-action firearms, the safety kit includes an insert to be positioned between the bolt and chamber and held in position by the frangible strap. A firearm with the safety apparatus installed thereon and a method of using the apparatus are also disclosed.
