The process according to the invention consists, in a first step, in reacting a secondary phosphine oxide or sulphide with an optionally activated alkali metal amide, and, in a second step, in reacting the mixture obtained in the first step with an organic halide contain- ing at least one halogenophenyl radical or one halogeno- methyl group. Tertiary phosphine oxides and sulphides are com- plexing agents of high stability.
