PR-7880 PRODUCTION OF HALIDE- AND ALKOXY-CONTAINING MAGNESIUM COMPOSITIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Compositions having the formula XnMg(OR)2-n in which X is chloro, bromo or iodo; R is a C1-C10 alkyl group and n is a value from about 0.2 to about 1.9 are produced by a process com- prising preparing an alkanol adduct of a magnesium halide, reacting the product of this step with metallic magnesium, and drying the product. The compositions are useful as olefin polymerization catalyst oomponents and supports.
