ABSTRACT An immunoassay which comprises forming an insoluble matrix comprising IgG antibody against a herpes simplex virus antigen to be detected, contacting the matrix with a biological fluid to immunocapture the herpes simplex virus antigen sought to be detected, contacting the resultant matrix with a biotin labeled monoclonal IgM antibody against the herpes simplex virus antigen, contacting the resultant matrix with readably labeled avidin, and determining the presence of and/or quantifying the immunocaptured herpes simplex virus antigen from the biological fluid by reading the labeled avidin immunocaptured by the matrix. A diagnostic pack for the demonstration and determination of a herpes simplex virus antigen is also disclosed.
