ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A self-locking lock nut to be applied to a shaft having an axial keyway. It can be applied and removed with or without special tooling by virtue of a camming relationship between the teeth of a rotationally restrained axially biased lock ring, and the teeth of a rotatable nut-ring that is threaded to the shaft, and which bears against a thrust washer to which the lock ring is retained.
