ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A controlled clutch/brake unit having a control interface between a computer and a clutch/brake unit to learn what position exists in a particular application, to learn what movement has to be done to attain a targetted stopping position, to make corrections within the control system by the control system itself until the desired targetted stopping position has been accurately attained, and to keep correcting as the work operation progresses in order to automatically compensate for any error in the system as it drifts off due to temperature or any other factor. An index table application is also described having any number of stations, which number of stations may be readily altered by mere removal and repositioning of target buttons without change in the computer program, and having a pneumatically controlled, oil cooled clutch/brake unit integrally disposed within the control system of the index table.
