Abstract of the Disclosure Neovascularization is caused by placing a ligated blood vessel, preferably in an artery, in a sponge made of a material permitting vessel growth therein and therethrough, the material preferably being an acrylic copolymer carrying therein collagen and thereon heparin and fibrinogen, there being also in a preferred embodiment a cell receptacle with a molecular weight cutoff permeable walls within the sponge.
